During the heyday of CBS News in the 1970s and 1980s Walter Cronkite was often cited in viewer opinion polls as; "the most trusted man in America".
One of Cronkite's trademarks was ending the CBS Evening News with the phrase; "...And that's the way it is:", followed by the date.
For those who remember Walter Cronkite, the following CBS video clip may seem like Déjà vu - all over again.
And for those who consider themselves part of the modern world (where technological change is impacting society at unprecedented levels), the following video clips may be seen as history repeating itself - all over again.
It all depends on who you are and your point of view.
If you know something of a person’s past accomplishments you have a good indicator of their legitimacy in present and future enterprises.
You have a track record to go by.
Would a Gambler/Entrepreneur be more confident in placing money on a known horse/person who has proven their abilities in the past - or on an unknown/unproven entity?
In a previous posting I wrote an article titled, 'Wireless Corporation 'Quiet Time'. The article highlighted the Investor/Entrepreneur attitude toward this new wireless technology.
If people have reservations about the viability of this wireless technology, I point out that others have committed personal fortunes to backing this ‘horse’ - and therein are lessons to be learnt - like; 'put your money where your mouth is' - for instance.
So the challenge for those who are merely spectators to this amazing technological race - as it has unfolded over the decades is:
Can you can hear, learn and speak from history; ‘…and that’s the way it is - Tuesday October 31st 1978’ - just as ‘certain others’ have heard, learnt and are speaking - though their words are muffled by thirteen billion dollars in their mouth - right now.
Or are you waiting for the race to finish - when it’s too late to back a ‘Sure Bet’?
